The shimmering, crystalline wonder of the Wind Realm portal sent chills through Lix’s body as she entered. Light grey streaks seemed to whip and spin around the portal.

Upon exiting the portal, Lix was greeted with the familiar pale greens of the Wind Realm flora and fauna. On the horizon, the glittering capitol of the realm shone. Lix made her way to the nearby guards. The Wind Realm guards’ eyes widened at her approach, and they quickly called a carriage over for her. The main guard of the three had a crystal pin on his classy grey uniform, showing his rank above the other two guards.

“Princess Lixalynn, what brings you to the Wind Realm today? We weren’t informed of your pending arrival.”

“I apologize for my sudden appearance, I am here to talk with Princess Liana.” Lix said with a smile.

“Of course, let us bring the carriage over with a couple of extra guards and you can head over to the palace.”

“Thank you, I would appreciate that immensely.”

Within a couple of minutes, Lix was in the carriage and on her way to the palace. As she looked out the window, she could see that the Wind Realm bustled with activity. A fresh breeze blew through her hair as she rode.

Before long, she reached the palace. As she stepped out of the carriage, a blur of black hair and long pale arms engulfed her in a hug. Realizing it was Liana Zhao, her best friend in the Wind Realm, she returned the embrace.

“It’s been so long, Lix!” Liana pulled back, keeping her hands on Lix’s shoulders, her soft brown eyes meeting Lix’s gaze. “And your hair is absolutely wind blown. Here, come with me and I’ll fix you right up!”

Before Lix could reply, Liana dragged her down a side corridor and into her quarters, and into a chair in front of the large mirror, all the while talking excitedly. Lix grinned at her friend while waiting for a break in the torrent of words. Liana’s hands moved skillfully as they brushed out the wind-blown tangles and weaved Lix’s hair into an intricate pattern.

“Liana, please!” Lix reached up and stopped her friend’s hand mid-weave. “I need your help to find Dare.”

“What do you mean?” Liana’s hands relaxed momentarily as she looked at her friend in the mirror.

“He’s missing, on a mission—a secret mission—and I haven’t heard from him in months. No one has. And I can’t talk about this with Clarissa and Omar, they’re too busy with each other. That leaves you, Liana. You’re my only friend left. Please, please, please help me.”

“Of course, I’ll help you find him.” Liana pulled up a chair next to Lix, sitting down and grasping Lix’s hands in hers while looking her in the eyes. “How can I help?”

“I knew I could count on you.” Lix felt a weight lift from her shoulders as she looked at her friend. “I need to know if he’s come here, to your realm. If he’s not here,” Lix swallowed, “If he’s not here, then I fear he may be dead.
